    Traditionally, tornadoes hit open fields. That's just statistical odds based on how much open field there is to developed land.

    Now that we keep building things, those tornadoes that used to hit open fields are hitting man-made, and often man-occupied, structures.

    Keep in mind that if the Texas tornadoes -- normal springtime tornadoes, I might add -- had hit 50 miles north or south in either direction, nobody would have heard about them except for weather weenies like myself.

      20 miles would have put some of them smack dab in the middle of either downtown Ft. Worth or downtown Dallas.
