  •  The Trayvon case was the spotlight (16+ / 0-)

It's what has caught the popular attention. There's also pretty univeral bi-partisan shock over the "unintended consequences" of the Stand Your Ground laws. The voter ID laws are much more controversial. To the low-info folks they sound very reasonable. However, with the light shining on it via the Trayvon coverage some good efforts are being made to inform some of those low-info folks, so that's a benefit too.

Where is the right-wing criticism of the Castle Doctrine? The only place where I see the Castle Doctrine specifically cited as the reason behind Zimmerman's actions is on the Left. My reading of the Right is casting this as an isolated incident at best, and a public, politically motivated lynching of Zimmerman at worst.

    •  Sadly, Trayvon Martin was not the first person (6+ / 0-)

killed related to these foolish "Stand Your Ground" laws.
It's just that his case has been the most shocking in that he was only seventeen, was completely innocent, was blatantly murdered, and his killer was not arrested.
And also the reason he was singled out was racial.

But many people have died because of these laws, blood is all over ALEC's hands.
And this is merely one area where their fetid influence is causing grave harm to our Nation.

But sometimes it takes a lightning rod to light up thePublic's consciousness.
