  •  sadly, there is almost no statistic that surprises (6+ / 0-)

    me these days.

I'm 62, and I barely recognize the country I live in today.

Oh, my own little world -- family, neighborhood, federal job, mainline Protestant church -- hasn't changed all that much. But the larger community has become something I cannot comprehend.

People in other parts of the country who would cheer for our economic collapse if it would take Obama down with it.

"Leaders" at the state and national levels who treat their "employers" (us!) like annoying economic liabilities.

Presidents who dissolve our civil liberties in the name of security, and a Congress full of sheep who agree to it.

An MIC that WE built and exported around the world.

A citizenry emboldened by the anonymity of the internet to say the most vile and disgusting things to each other on a daily basis.

Really, I'm not just a cranky old lady having a "get off my lawn" crisis -- I don't want to go BACK to any "good old days" but rather, go forward to a country with more hope and less hate.

    A LOT less hate.
