  •  vicki, did you also find it easier to learn a (6+ / 0-)

    foreign language?

I have found that people who are good at reading music are also good at math AND learning foreign languages.

and then repeat them back (which is not a skill every person has, BTW), is key to deciphering foreign language.

    •  Not so much learning, (0+ / 0-)

as being able to mimic, or do accents. Very easy for me.

When I'm in Chicago, I sound like a native, etc. British friends - all of a sudden I sound like I have an affectation.

I guess I never tried too hard w/ the actual learning part!

could speak fluent spanish AND was first chair of the flute section in the orchestra...

I count on my fingers, was never able to make spanish a viable second language and faked MY way through 3 years of orchestra... having to spend endless hours memorizing the flute part of Marche' Slav because, try as I might and despite being very musical i could NOT learn to read music

and I was considered the 'smart sister' ... but due to a very prolonged early childhood illness I missed over 2 years of schoolin and was never able to catch up in math and always wondered if that was also why I was uncomfortable learning other languages and could not read music.
