  •  in answer to your question: Lobbyists. (11+ / 0-)

UNLESS we make enough noise, loud enough and long enough, that our elected representatives recognize that they are going to get primaried to hell and back if they don't deal with us.

"Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.

AT&T's lobbyists. And they'll decide based on how profitable the neighborhood is.

Profitable? Then voice remains an essential service, and they should keep their subsidies for providing it.

Unprofitable? Well then, look, satellite! What kind of ungrateful leech on society lives in a neighborhood with trees and hills, anyway?

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!

... if they vote for these bills. Sadly, there is a paucity of alternative people for whom to vote. I'm increasingly convinced that the "spoiler" argument when more than one candidate runs for a given seat is specifically designed to ensure we can't get out of the catch-22 by ensuring we have no options other than bad and worse.
