but consider that the strongest single predictor of voting behaviour is your parents' voting behaviour.

Unlike members of most other demographic groups (who share most of their demographic characteristics with their parents), the vast majority of gays are brought up by non-gay parents.

And yet we're only about half as likely to vote Republican. We don't quite match black voters, but we're the second-most-reliably-Democratic demographic group, and we don't even have the parental effect going for us.

I still don't understand that 20-25%. But it's pretty well established that around 20-25% of any group is crazy (see: W's approval ratings). Except for black folks. They're down around 10% crazy. Better parenting, I think.

but rather that some people are psychologically inclined toward the conservative side, barring overwhelming evidence that they just hate you (and even then in some cases) and will do so if they can find reason to believe that side can work for them at least some of the time.  I honestly think it would be much harder to find things to cling to (if you were already so inclined that would convince you that the GOP isn't so bad) if you are black, than it is even now for LGBTs (see how easy it would be to do so for Romney based on his past history before primary) or until the last couple of ago years Latinos (remember that W got a fair amount of Latino support as governor and later when he ran for POTUS) however it would be hard to be in denial about their obvious contempt for African-Americans especially these days (yet you still have people like Cain and West, etc even now).
