Afterall the state grants those charters in the first place,

they should be able to take them away too.

The problem with this approach is that it assumes that most corporations are relatively benign, and that specific actions only need to be taken for those that aren't.

I propose turning that assumption on its head. Specifically, that most if not all corporations, given enough time, will become a problem.

The best way to prevent that from happening is to set a mandatory expiration date on corporate charters - say five years. At that point, a corporation could apply for a renewal, but only after a careful review of past actions.

    •  Business is *everything* (0+ / 0-)

Without it, your area doesn't have jobs, health care, education for your children, or anything.

Business is absolutely necessary for survival. I don't like corporations misbehaving either, but you're going to sit there and throw up roadblocks to the existence of the only thing that 'puts food on your family'?

        to the bad-actors, yes.

like those caused the Wall Street Recession,

yes they should have a few "impediments".

        apparently they need stronger incentives

to protect their investors' money, and other people's property.

What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.
