should do a lot more than clamor for a repeal of the payroll tax holiday, they should clamor for Social Security to be shored up entirely by taxing the wealthy.  They should be framing this as that the wealthy have had a free ride for a long time and now the bill has come due, it is time for them to pony up and pay their fair share rather than forcing the burden to continue to be carried by those that can least afford it.

They should be clamoring for solution that are far, far to the left of what they would settle for because the left in general seems to have forgotten both how to negotiate and how important it is to finally get the Overton Window moving back in the other direction after its decades-long unabated lurch to the right.  Drum is suggesting that the left not only abandon the idea of moving the Overton Window back toward the left but actually help the right move it farther rightward.  I'm insulted that Drum considers himself to be my "fellow."

" Is there a reason, other than facile centrism, why this rich country should look to increase poverty among it's elders?"

I love that "facile centrism" term.  So approproiate for Drum.

"Facile centrism" = false equivalency = laziness = ambivalence = jaded perspective = cynicism = you are not helping.

Hey, Republicans, the whole world is watching.
