day--we were still living in Columbia, TN--not too far north of the areas in Alabama that were getting hit with the worst tornadoes. The sky was unlike anything I had ever seen--I spent the whole day watching the weather maps--luckily, there were only a few smaller tornadoes in the county where I lived.

For weeks afterward, it was a common sight to see people from northern Alabama buying gas in our town because there were so few gas stations with power down there. Some days, there would be long lines at the pumps at the gas stations off I-65. So the destruction was so widespread people were having to drive at least an hour to buy gas.
