If they are providing accurate data, why does it matter? If the data isn't accurate, that's a whole different issue. I have never seen real, comprehensive data that contradicts the charts at the Tax Policy Center website.

And I'm not the type of guy that has the time or inclanation to go sifting through IRS data and comparing it for accuracy against this organization's data.  Additionally, you can take "accurate data" and interpret it a number of different ways -- and end up confusing a number-adverse guy like me in a matter of seconds.

For these reasons, then, it's more important for me to know who is providing me the data, than to be able to undertake the task of validating it.

    •  The numbers are CBO numbers. (4+ / 0-)

Just posted by the Tax Policy Center.

If you want to know about the Tax Policy Center, see here.
It's generally considered a more liberal counterpart to the more right-leaning Tax Foundation.   (Google "Tax Policy Center liberal" to see some of the criticism of it from the right.) The "left-leaning" or "right-leaning" label applies primarily to their essays or opinion pieces.  They are both accurate when they are just republishing data, like when the Tax Policy Center republishes CBO data or the Tax Foundation republishes IRS data.

But, as VClib says, left-leaning or right-leaning, this particular data is from the CBO.
