  •  I don't know how you can not give the president (7+ / 0-)

credit for killing OBL.  Bush and Romney said it wouldn't be a priority.  Bush didn't make it a priority and many people believe let Bin Laden off the hook in Tora Bora.  Obama made killing OBL a priority.  He than shifted military resources to get it done.

I think most presidents would have made the decision to kill OBL.  But it is clear that Bush did not, and Romney would not, commit the resources to get the job done.  That is the difference.

    •  I DO give him credit (0+ / 0-)

      He made the right decision.

But, as far as we know, the Obama administration didn't devote any more or less resources to finding Bin Laden that the Bush Admin did.

Military intelligence doesn't get weekly orders from the White House.  I am quite sure there was an ongoing effort that began on 9/11 to find Bin Laden.  They found him on Obama's watch.. and good for him, he made the call.

      •  wrong. (7+ / 0-)

Simply put, the Bush adminsitration disbanded the unit searching for Bin Laden-
President Obama re-instated the search- and suvveeded.

        •  That's simply wrong.. The CIA (0+ / 0-)

was actively pursuing Bin Laden since 9/11.

The first clues to Bin Laden were found in the Bush administration, many years before Obama took office.

The waterboarding of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed revealed the name of one of Bin Laden's couriers.  The CIA was following up thousands of leads during the Bush Admin and the Obama Admin. They had been trying to locate that courier for years and finally got him linked to that house in Pakistan in 2009.

Here's Obama's own words after Bin Laden was found:

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.
Good for the president in ordering that lead to be pursued.  Yes.. all credit to him.  But, it is not as if we were not looking for Bin Laden until President Obama stepped into the White House.
          •  I said that the unit tracking OBL was disbanded. (4+ / 0-)

            NYT July 4, 2006:
WASHINGTON, July 3 — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.
The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone for the agency, which formed the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring Mr. bin Laden to justice "dead or alive."
