    and unfortunately, I use it doesn't really mean anything, it's just something to say when you don't know exactly how sympathetic to be.  Those women WERE petty, but they didn't know it. I knew it, even as a child, but they didn't. It's the way they were taught by their mothers, and by Southern Society. The Deep South is truly a sick place, not as bad as it used to be of course, but still stuck in the middle ages of social must-do's and must-be's.
