  •  I'll pick one small nit (9+ / 0-)

with this otherwise excellent piece: considering that many of those dot.com companies made sites like this possible (not to mention the impact services like Twitter and Facebook have made on organizing; imagine how long it would have taken and how much money it would have cost to give Komen and Limbaugh the blowback they've rightfully received), I don't think I'd call them "crap" companies. Much of the dot.bomb crash was due to piss-poor management -- it was like giving a diabetic a few thousand dollars and sending them into the Sweet Factory candy store. If they'd spent more money on R&D and less on high end office chairs and foosball tables, some of them might have been able to ride out the storm and survived.

Other than that small issue, great commentary.

I probably just lost more money on them than you did

but being a life-long resident of Silly Con Valley, I've seen this Facebook rodeo before. Stock speculation isn't for the quick buck -- the people who are panicking now because the value's down 10% or whatever should just sit tight and see where things are in about 6 months. They might want to hold off on those luxury condos and fancy cars, but they could have a reasonably comfortable retirement.
