  •  That is so true. (3+ / 0-)

Take from one of the "dark" complected in my own immediate family.  The ones that pass for white are treated completely differently.
This has made me more aware of that subtle unconscious racism that I am always referring to.  I have stood side by side all my life with my fairer siblings and experienced it.  The Liberals that "think" they are so enlightened can be the worst.
Rather than being so quick to be offended by some "blanket accusation" use the opportunity for some self examination.  Ask YOURSELF the hard questions regarding your true feelings about other races and even the fact that our president is Black.  Being automatically offended rather than reflecting prevents you from truly being free of racism just a little more.

in august, at the equator, I'm like jada pinkett smith's complexion lmao.

everyone else on my mom's side of the family (the side I'm closest too) is of irish complexion.  no snark.

so yep, great comment.  ever read "down these mean streets" by piri thomas?  speaks to the same interfamily complexion issues.

for those of us who've spent a lifetime engaging those hard questions since a young age, comments like this seem a few decades late to the conversation.  I'm never quite sure why the assumption is made that people haven't ever thought about these things, especially around here.

Let me just say if I accused you of racism, that might provoke a reaction in you.  Before engaging in blanket statements of any kind (accusations, or just generalizations), maybe take a moment to consider that humanity is insanely diverse, and any group is also so diverse as to make that generalization inaccurate, whatever it is.

for me, it has been a conclusion drawn from the thoughtless things people have been saying around race on this site since I joined.
