The motto of the college Republicans where I taught was "
work with us now or work for us later." Just dumb smart-ass talk.  Most of us will/have/had worked for somebody.  And if you're the person that they're working for, don't you want them educated, capable, healthy and motivated? I do not understand the opposition to education and health care which serve everyone.  Unless you have a cynical, mean, greedy, morbid outlook. No good comes from that.

Education makes them question.  Trainig makes them good little meat robots.

In the mid 80s, the university I attended had a regularly losing football team. I mean bad.

(To be fair, they required their athletes to graduate in 4 years, unlike many of the collegial schools who allow athletes to take 5 years to finish their coursework. But I digress.)

One of the cheers I remember hearing, from our sparsely populated stands, was "That's all right, that's okay, you're gonna work for us someday."

I was dumbfounded the first time I heard that. I came from a blue-collar household. I had limited exposure to people from the next atmosphere up, in terms of income, so I hadn't seen much of the assumed privilege mentality and arrogance... yet.

Never could find it in myself to utter that cheer.
