    ...said she basically forced her son to Sandusky's home when he was telling her he didn't want to go there. She was made to feel inadequate as a single mom and felt like Sandusky was a positive male role model.

    We also need to make sure that groups that reach out to these kids have every protection in place to keep them safe. A mentoring program here (started by a high profile college football coach, actually) has from the beginning mandated that children and adult mentors interact in public settings (mostly through the child's school) or in large groups. Never in a one-on-one private situation. The children don't spend the night at the mentors' homes under any circumstance.

     A reputable program should have those rules in place and parents should immediately ask questions if they are not or if there is a suggestion that they be violated.
