    but if that $20k is the difference in purchase price and sales price,  she wouldn't have "made money" on Super Hit after buying him, importing him, and owning him for four years. His expenses in full training would have easily been more than $20k a year.

      on the deal.  If I have an expensive camera with features that I realize are starting to go bad, it may still be good for my kids to fool around taking pictures with it.  I do not expect to resell it in the range that it would otherwise claim, though, because it is no longer suited for the purpose justifying the higher price.
