I despise election years in Texas simply because all of the advertising dollars are spent promoting Republican candidates who invariably have messages like "too liberal for Texas", "tea party approved", "strong conservative", etc.

The further you get away from major population centers, the more likely you are to have traditional, conservative, God-fearing people who will almost by default vote Republican because of what they've received in the way of programming. The odds of reaching those people are slim, so how do you start?

In many places like the brutal political landscape of countryside Texas, it is important to incorporate an appropriate and relevant populism into the message. Don't complain about the wealthy Capitalist class and approach class warfare as one normally would, but rather tell the people there "Those rich snobs hate you and want to prevent you from becoming a future millionaire so they can have that million to themselves." It's important to tap into Mitch Daniels sadly true words that most Americans see themselves as future millionaires. Make them feel like this assumption is true but unattainable thanks to ivy league haute snobs who are using their riches and Northern connections top prevent the great Texan god-fearing family from getting theirs, and then repeat the mantra that you'll get yours if you vote Democrat.
