In the June 2012 edition of Texas Monthly, Paul Burka reported about the concern of Texas Republican Party Chair Steve Munisteri over the party's shaky future if it does not reach out beyond its current base. According to the article, he feels it is imperative to be more inclusive. I have a link, but to read beyond the lede, you need to register, which is free.

When I read the piece I wondered if the state Democrats were thinking along the same lines and planning/acting accordingly.

Also, I think Fort Worth has a Democrat in the State Senate--Wendy Davis. I haven't been here long enough to know her record, but I am heartened that I might not be completely alone here.

has been worried since Bush was Gov. They know what is happening. Their base here doesn't help much either.

scholarships to Ivy League schools, and I think her district is less crazily gerrymandered. Her previous district vaguely looked like a bow tie.

Education is a very strong focus for her.

        Good to know. Thank you.

My husband and I moved to Fort Worth from southern California earlier this year. We think we will be in Texas about 2 years. Since we kept our home in Ventura County, I have retained it as my permanent residence for voting purposes. I return once a month to check on things and to keep my driver's license legal. I wonder, though, where my vote is more useful--wiped out by a flood of Republican votes in Texas or part of a groundswell of Democratic votes in California.
