    for most of the west, is that precipitation is very seasonal. That is, we find it very normal to have no rain from say May through October, and by "we" I mean a substantial percentage of territory west of the Mississippi.

    There are places with a fairly high annual precipitation that still have to manage 6 months without rain under normal conditions.
