Do you really think that millions of people vote the way they do because they are stupid or evil? In fact by making such an accusation - aren't you practicing the same kind of intellectual simplification of complex phenomena that underlies many themes supported by the right.

There are certain threads common to conservatism that have roots in original American political thought such as: gun rights, distrust of government, and stricter federalism by reserving more rights to states.  Not to mention the weird juxtaposition between religion and almost jingoistic style patriotism (By-the-way - I have no idea how this evolved.)

We (and I mean me too) cannot get our brains wrapped around  the way these ideas have morphed from our original republic to our modern politics - as those on the other side of the debate can get their brains wrapped around our views.

The Ann Coulters, and Rush Limbaughs of the world are telling their constituents the same thing you are telling us: Their choices; however, are not stupid and evil - they simplify us as evil or un-American.

I think focusing a glaring spotlight on someone like Romney - and vividly describing why is ideas undermine American values is a better way to approach the problem.  Believing that millions of voters that disagree with you - are somehow inferior to you - is not productive.

is exactly what I do about 95% of the time I post diaries, make videos, engage in conversations with my many Republican acquaintances.

And, sometimes, when I get fed the hell up with people parroting their silly catch phrases ("teleprompter, HA!") mis-and-disinformation and outright, stupid, evil lying, I react.

Do I believe the stuff I write? Yes. Do you read it? Do YOU believe that people who deliberately perpetuate known falsehoods to keep others ignorant and thereby gain power are good people? People deserving of that power?

As I see it, the diarist's point wasn't about people being stupid or evil for believing in gun rights or federalism.

It's about the people who tell lies, and the folks who believe or pretend to believe them.

Like "massive tax increases".  "Death panels".  "Obama not American".  "Global warming a hoax".

Political philosophy is one thing.  Lies are another.  Lies about easily checkable things.  To believe or propagate them is evil or stupid.  To exploit one's audience's ignorance is explicitly evil:  "do not put a stumbling block before the blind".

    •  It's the stupid, stupid, stupid (0+ / 0-)

I've got relative like this. just STUPID. It's one thing if people were informed and had some kind of real facts couched in their ideology but they've been fed such a bunch of horseshit that they haven't been interested enough to double's just STUPID. and because it's STUPID they are AFRAID and being manipulated because of it.

So you have to let out a rant once in a while. The situation is frustrating.

There ARE stupid people in the electorate, the Republicans know this, and they pay Rush very well to scare the shit out of them so they stay in line.

THAT Is why we've degenerated so much, not because Crashing Vor is on to the whole thing and needs to let it out once in a while
