  •  Adam, as a Penn State alumna, this (8+ / 0-)

doesn't surprise me in the least.

I would have wished JoePa would have been more on the ball...but I never would have expected it.

When I was an undergrad there, sometimes the football players would come around to the gay bars and bash gay men.

    They always got off scot-free.

There were rumors of rape -- I dunno about that -- but again, no consequences.

Football has been the God of Penn State since at least the 1970s.

Ignoring any violations of morals, ethics, or the law in the interest of a better football season was normative not an aberration.

To make the argument that the media has a left- or right-wing, or a liberal or a conservative bias, is like asking if the problem with Al-Qaeda is do they use too much oil in their hummus. Al Franken

    •  Amen to that. The program was never as (2+ / 0-)

squeaky clean as people pretended it was, and players always got away with a lot of things.

But as a fellow alum I have one question. There's a gay bar in State College?  Of course I went there back in the late '70s, early 80s.

By now there are two.  Back then -- we are colleagues, btw -- it was the My-Oh-My... gay in front and a stripper bar in the back, lol...and a few years later, a gay club a few blocks away...I forget what that one was called but they played disco and had a small but real dance floor.

        •  OK, I remember the My-Oh-My. And I think the (0+ / 0-)

other was Mr. C's -- it was the only place that had anything remotely like a club dance floor. Shandygaff had a dance floor too, though.
