I have to go to the CA convention of the Peace & Freedom Party this morning. I am a delegate pledged to Barr-Sheehan
It appears you don't agree with Cindy Sheehan when it comes to Syria. In fact, you are part of the
barrage of horrifying Facebook images from Homs, and statements from the "Free Syrian Army"
Does she know about your diaries here in DKos?

Robert Fisk: From Washington this looks like Syria's 'Benghazi moment'. But not from here

It's not difficult to see how the opposite plays in the West. The barrage of horrifying Facebook images from Homs, and statements from the "Free Syrian Army", and the huffing of La Clinton and the amazement that Russia can be so blind to the suffering of Syrians – as if America was anything but blind to the suffering of Palestinians when, say, more than 1,300 were killed in Israel's onslaught on Gaza – doesn't gel with reality on the ground. Why should the Russians care about Homs? Did they care about the dead of Chechnya?

Look at it the other way round. Yes, we all know that Syria's intelligence service has committed human rights abuses. They did that in Lebanon. Yes, we all know this is a regime in Damascus, not an elected government. Yes, we all know about corruption. Yes, we watched the UN's humiliation at the weekend – although why La Clinton should expect the Russians to click their heels after the "no-fly zone" in Libya turned into "regime change" is a bit of a mystery.

    •  Interesting conversation between Sheehan (0+ / 0-)

      and Fisk.

with which Claiborne is directly involved are strongly against any intervention in Syria. They have positions on Syria that are diametrically opposed to those of Claiborne.

          Don't you find this ironic?

          ‘HANDS OFF SYRIA & IRAN’
Anti-war protests held in many cities

At the Federal Building in Los Angeles, people from the anti-war, solidarity and social justice movements, with a large attendance from the Syrian and other Arab-American communities, protested the latest war threats and provocations against Syria on June 30. Among the key organizers of the event was a member of Arab Americans for Syria, an organization which also participated in planning actions around the U.S.

Socialist and anti-imperialist organizations and activists spoke at the rally, including a member of the Peace and Freedom Party, BAYAN-USA, the International League of Peoples Struggles, the Southern California Immigration Coalition, the Union of Progressive Iranians, Unión del Barrio, Workers World Party, Latinos Against War and the Coalition to Stop FBI Repression. Workers World newspapers with the headline “Hands off Syria” were passed out and well received.

a delegate.  So my perceptions may differ from yours.

I spoke to the convention about what was happening in Aleppo today and there was a lot of support for my position.

Of course the PSL was there, pushing their own candidate and agenda and they didn't like what I said. They are like the WWP you cite above pro-Russian, meaning also pro-Qaddafi, pro-Assad hacks, but why you quote from the WWP here, I have know idea. They have nothing to do with the PFP.

            •  I used that link because it mentions that the (0+ / 0-)

Peace and Freedom Party spoke at the 'HANDS OFF SYRIA & IRAN' rally. It simply mentions who was involved with the rally - nothing more.

Was this a "rogue" speaker that was not authorized to speak for the party?
    •  I knew Cindy Sheehan before she was "Cindy Sheehan (0+ / 0-)

I was at Camp Casey but I knew her before that.

I've known her maybe 7 or 8 years now. Cindy is new to socialist thought, she hasn't made the struggles in Syria or the MENA a focus of attention AFASIK, like many of us she is subject to repeat what she's heard over and over from people like you and the PSL who just rolled over and endorsed her, she as always supported my work and most importantly, political unity on all questions has never been the basis for our friendship.

      •  Do you agree with her political views? (0+ / 0-)

As part of the leadership of the Peace and Freedom Party they do become important.

Cindy is new to socialist thought,
        You will teach her?

You give me WAY too much credit. I think Cindy Sheehan has much more intelligence than to simply "repeat what she's heard over and over" like some sort of parrot.

Here's some of her thoughts on Syria:

        ...
I wonder what it is about Junes and Septembers with our CIA and S.A.?

        COMMON THREADS:

It is becoming more and more apparent daily that Syria and all her atrocities is backed and funded by the CIA and that the Houla Massacre was the act of NATO allies not Assad.

Lets see, that would be Syria that just made trade agreements with Iran and Venezuela. Syria, whose allies and trading partners Russia and China refuse to allow the US to create another Libyan type fiasco.

Any of us remotely aware at all realizes that Iraq was over oil, and Iran will be over control of the Straits of Hormuz through which it flows.

Iraq and Af/Pak over-extended our troops, but the uptick, hell tsunami of dronings have eased the need for boots on the ground.

        We are now in:

Iraq Afghanistan Pakistan Somalia Libya Syria Yemen Uganda

You do know that Cindy Sheehan blamed the Syrian conflict on members of the Bohemian Grove at the Occupy Bohemian Grove 2012 protest?

Actually, if I was American I would consider supporting Cindy.
