    •  Team Obama at $75 million, but... (5+ / 0-)

...as Mark Murray of the NBC political team again smartly points out (and almost all other political reporters ignore), this is combined campaign/party committee/victory fund money, with restrictions imposed on everything but campaign money.

Once again, I'm assuming OFA has more CoH than the Romney campaign at the end of July.

Romney will be able to go on a deluge post-convention, and that's what OFA needs to be able to weather, without the same independent expenditures to help that Romney gets.

But I find myself far less fearful of GOP money than I was a couple months ago.  They've been pounding the airwaves plenty hard without moving the ball even an inch.  That's because OFA's message has simply been more persuasive on all counts.  And OFA won't spend any less post-convention than OFA is spending now; they'll probably ramp up, too.

I have a hard time imagining what more Team Red can say about Obama that would move the needle for them.  They've attacked plenty on all of Obama's vulnerabilities:  weak jobs recovery, and spending/deficits/debt.  How many more ways can they say stuff about these issues and still find a way to make voters budge their way?

This was always a problem for Republicans, that a sitting President can't be affected much by ads.  Everyone already has an opinion and is reasonably well-informed, there's hardly any new information an ad can offer to move polling.  Romney really needed to define himself as a better alternative, and just ignored all that on the notion that swing voters aren't paying attention.  But that's not true, it was never true.  Now he's in trouble and having to thread a needle to repair his public image.
