but it also supports my still unspoken conspiracy theory based in part of Craig Unger's House of Bush, House of Saud and the increase in prices at the pump (from $0.19 in ~1972 to $3.53 here today). I wouldn't speak about it here, of course ;)

I worked at the hotel that the Al Saud royal family would stay at on a regular basis and just before 9/11 they were booked through October/Nov 2001, a few days before 9/11 they suddenly without warning checked out in the middle of the night - all of them (although they were mostly minor princesses and princes on an extended spa/shopping trip).

The accounting dept head was called in in the wee hours to help them get as much cash together as they could and they booked private planes - as their personal 747 was not ready.

      Then 9/11 happened-

Many of us workers informed the FBI anonymously and our concerns were brushed off as nothing.

Probably from the NYT.  Not necessarily nefarious -- I don't think anyone thought they were in on it -- but that they had advance warning seems all too likely.

Where they got that inside info is much less clear.  Could have been the Saudi Embassy...or someone in the family who was in contact with bin Laden's relatives.

The secondary villain, of course, is the one who, upon being told Osama bin Laden determined to strike, snarls, "OK, you covered your ass."

To make the argument that the media has a left- or right-wing, or a liberal or a conservative bias, is like asking if the problem with Al-Qaeda is do they use too much oil in their hummus. Al Franken

and I didn't know some of the family left beforehand. I suppose we'll never know all the details, but that one is especially intriguing.

        All the best.
