    General inflation is such a tiny part of oil price fluctuations.

    For instance, the Libyan revolution caused an oil price spike right in the middle of the almost-double-dip-recession in 2011.

    Oil prices, in particular, are especially unmoored from general inflation.  That's why they don't include fuel prices in general inflation calculations.
