Make Way for Tomorrow, but I will try to get hold of it somehow.

Interestinglt, Leo McCarey also made the Early Cold War anti-communist film My Son John, which he both wrote and directed. The main character, John Jefferson, is a government official who is secretly a Communist spy.  McCarey's screenplay hints that John is also homosexual and conflates the ideas of "perversion" and political subversion. Robert Walker's slightly campy performance as John reinforces this impression.
