  •  Romney knew he was likely to lose (9+ / 0-)

when he refused to release his returns. He was hedging his bet, figuring that if he lost, as he knew to be likely, at least he would be spared the likely future damage brought about by releasing the returns. He approached this campaign as he does anything else, dispassionately and with an eye towards protecting his interests. Not that he wouldn't have liked to win. But it wasn't absolutely essential.

What a pathetic human being, lacking any real depth or substance on anything. He's not even that smart, as we're constantly seeing. Just a mean-spirited son of wealth who's willing to do anything to succeed even if it hurts others.

I think no analysis of Romney's behavior can be complete unless you take into account that he may never have had any idea of winning and is simply doing it for the attention. Nothing else seems to make any sense.

I think he's into validation, of the male ego frat boy variety. The same warped mentality that leads other men to persue success for the sake of success, not caring how it's achieved or towards what broader end. He never really wanted to BE president. He just wanted to have the title and the glory that came from it. If he wanted attention, it was from fellow alpha male assholes.
