    I think Obama is a pretty well-read guy, and he probably meets quite a few of the money people here and there.

    But for what 'the voters' think, he probably reads the papers like the rest of us and talks to whomever he talks to from day to day. Many if not most of them are probably in DC and/or read the papers as well, so they likely have an outsized influence. Plus he probably meets a fair number of 'the villagers' directly.

    Thinking of them as 'the voters' is definitely a mistake, but getting reliable information from the grassroots is likely difficult for a sitting president. It's one reason that I am happy that he's young and has children -- he and Michelle have to deal with the day to day mundanities of getting the children dressed, fed, educated, &c that most of the rest of us do, and that is a much better cross-section of life than anything the typical 60+ CEO grandfather deals with.
