...the mighty Hunter, but that advice is not all that bad.

As we've seen over and over, what the media obsesses about in these debates are "stylistic" impressions, not so much the substance of what is said.

Hence, you get the mythic "There you go again" Reagan reference, Gore's "hrrumphing and eye rolling" and on and on.

So, from that standpoint, the idea really is not to make a stupendous gaffe. Romney's team realizes this, and they are just trying to make the guy look "normal".

If they can do that, and admittedly that isn't easy with Mitt, I think that is a "victory" for them, as crazy as it sounds.

    •  The advice is fine. (0+ / 0-)

The problem is the recipient of it - Romney.

Has he made a single outing during this whole campaign season when the mask hasn't slipped?

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy... the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

      •  No, but.. (0+ / 0-)

...they have to try something, don't they?

They don't really have anything of substance to offer, so all that really leaves them with is the tried and true "Lipstick on a pig" strategy!

When you get right down to it, that's really all it is.

    •  there you go again only worked (0+ / 0-)

      because people already liked Reagan.

Gore's eye rolls only hurt because people already didn't like Gore.

that said, Rmoney will be called the winner if he gets through tonight without any obvious major gaffe, no matter how many lies he tells.
