I think it is getting some good airplay down here. I heard a tease about the story being on the 10 pm news last night. That is after my bedtime so I did not see it, but maybe someone did and can report what was said.

It was OK.  I'm wondering when/if the actual audio will be aired.  DesJarlais doesn't deny, just says it's a "personal attack", and thus a distraction from what matters.  (Stewart, I'm told, has 100% rating from Right to Life, which might help in this circumstance, though it rules him out for Orange to Blue.  That stand is not great or exciting from where I sit, but better than DesJarlais on other issues.)

      •  Here is what Stewart said in his press conference (3+ / 0-)

        yesterday.

Stewart said the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision is the law of the land and that each woman should make decisions about abortions while consulting with her family.

“We need to do everything we can to reduce abortions,” Stewart said.

I can't find the exact quote of the statement about Roe v. Wade but I assume this is accurate.

As you are well aware, unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get elected here if you don't toe the "pro-life" line.  But Stewart does not seem like someone who would go out of his way to push the issue. I agree that it is not the stand I would like but I can deal with considering other issues and the fact that I don't think he is a fanatic on the issue of choice.

Jim Lewis (who is running for Stewarts state senate seat) is actively and vocally pro-choice. His response to people who are upset about that is "well, you know where I stand and you know I will not lie to you about my position." I am interested to see if a liberal can be elected here.

I'm for that, too.  Reducing unwanted pregnancies is the shortest route to that goal.

The best way to do it is make birth control widely available and affordable.  Make sure Planned Parenthood stays in business.  A little sex education in the schools:  Todd Akin would certainly would have benefited from that!  (Along with the aspirin between the knees guy, and Rush Limbaugh, too.)

          •  Absolutely. (0+ / 0-)

Plus adequate childcare, adequate food and healthcare, paid maternity or paternity leave; the list is quite long of things to do to reduce abortions. And if reducing abortion, rather than controlling someone's else sexual behavior, is someone's goal, one would think that is a bandwagon everyone could get on.

After all, no one wants an abortion. Someone may want one as opposed to the alternative. Someone may feel that an abortion is her best option. But I would bet Mitt's $10,000 that no one has ever gotten pregnant because she wanted to do so just because she wanted to have an abortion.
