    but I'm tempted to think that we're seeing the same effect as you see sometimes with death penalty sentencing.

    It's been statistically proven that, at least in North Carolina, defendants found guilty of killing a white person are more likely to get the death penalty than those found guilty of killing a black person.

    I am not accusing anyone of racism—my understanding is that it's a subtle, subconscious effect—but I do wonder if people are just more okay with a white man being aggressive against a black man in social and political situations than they are when the "victim" of the aggression is white.

    Not that Obama couldn't have done better. But it might explain why certain behaviors that Romney could get away with Biden can not.
