  •  The Republicans have been wrong about (7+ / 0-)

everything only if one assumes that the 1% wants as strong and healthy a nation for the great majority of people as possible.  They do not but this continued assumption which is so ingrained in the minds of decent people is what gives them cover with low information voters.

Today's Republican Party as many others throughout the world are solely committed through the power of their wealth to buy governments and social institutions and media to enrich themselves unfairly at the expense of everyone else.  That is the chief goal and top value that trumps everything else.

There are likely a few among the 1% who rationalize their behaviors as being right in order to sooth their consciences with self deception, but the majority are so removed from reality that they are indifferent to their destructiveness and feel assured that they are untouchable.

The IMF report, as Krugman notes, is stated in such a way that it is designed to have little impact unless it is interpreted for and to the people who are not high information voters, which he and others will do.  But it also makes it easy for popular media people to ignore and for the Republicans to discredit as a failure of the Europeans to employ their clearly superior American form which will never be fully articulated.

So the only immediate protections available to us is to fight politically, GOTV, and then hopefully resurrect all avenues of protests that are available.

Chief neoconservative/fundamentalist allied belief: All things are possible if only you lie.
