There's no reason to seek optimism when realism might scare more Dems into a voting booth.

    •  My feeling is that too much pessimism is 100X (6+ / 0-)

worse than too much optimism. Enthused supporters make good volunteers and convince their friends to vote too. In wartime, nations always talk up their victories in propaganda, never their defeats. There's a reason for this.

Optimism that you're going to win is a far great motivator than fear that you might lose.  People are more enthusiastic when they're optimistic they'll win, and enthusiastic people volunteer, donate, and vote.

The very words "there is no reason to seek optimism" says it all.

There is not a single coach at a game or before an Olympic event, or a sales manager, or a director of a political phone banking or canvassing center, in their right mind who would subscribe to this notion.

This is LOSER talk. Optimism is motivating; pessimism is a self fulfilling prophesy of defeat.

I vote Democratic because I am a woman with self-respect , who rejects bigotry of all kinds, subscribes to science, believes in universal health care, embraces unions, and endorses smart internationalist foreign policy.
