  •  Yes, obviously the GOP (4+ / 0-)

is generally opposed to any idea that would enable more people to vote (especially young people and low-income voters, the people who cite most often cite busyness as the reason they don't vote.)

That said, some reformer-type Republicans are on record supporting this change, and in any case, this is a cultural shift as much as a governmental one -- creating a culture of voting.

which is very expensive, why not push to pass a law changing the date from a Tuesday to Sunday?

I personally like the idea of following Oregon who has had mail only voting since 2000 with higher turnouts, lower costs, and no issues with ballots or polling locations. If voting was by mail only the actual day of the week does not matter.

As Chick-Fil-A and any other number of religious corporations demonstrate... you don't do work on Sunday (except the lowly women can do their women's work).

And Saturdays will be off limits too, so just take the first Tuesday in November and make it a national holiday for voting.

Voting by mail won't hit the rural-oriented states for a century or more. If ever.

A federal holiday just cleans it up nicely.

We can, and people do, go vote in person as well. And, if Election Day was changed to a sunday, it still wouldn't change the fact that some people would be expected to work that day (former waitress).
