  •  Yeah. I'm older than probably all of you, (4+ / 0-)

but we were embarrassed to trick or treat beyond age 12.  I remember feeling sad that it was my last year to be able to do it.   We also used to run around the neighborhood by ourselves, knocking doors. My brother and I would go together.  It was before the days when someone decided to create the urban myth that people would put razor blades in apples.  So lots of people gave apples or homemade treats.  My mother would make homemade donuts that were still warm and covered with powdered sugar.  Our house was very popular. The people who gave chocolate bars were more popular than those who gave suckers.  All the kids wore costumes, but making them yourself or having mom help was the most common way to obtain them.  Girls all wanted to be princesses and boys wanted to be cowboys, so it wasn't that hard to make a costume. It's still not.

and little bags with pieces of unwrapped candy. Early on my parents used to mix candy corn and harvest mix together and wrap it in a Halloween napkin with a Busy Baker Spices Wafer at the bottom. They'd hand out one each to the kids with an apple as well. They gave that up as our family grew.

I'm 60, born in 1952 which was the age innocence since Halloween had yet to become the "industry" it is today.
