  •  P.S., 9-year-old girl gets it (4+ / 0-)

At Cheryl Roberts' website, she writes a "Voices from the campaign" post that nicely amplifies Senator Gillibrand's diary:

I met 9-year-old Emmalee at a meet-and-greet in Hoosick Falls in August. I asked her whether she was ready to go back to school; she said she was not so sure. She liked summer vacation and reading very much.

As she listened to my speech, I watched her from time to time while I spoke; she seemed to be listening closely to everything I said, especially when I spoke about the environment. When I was done, I told the folks gathered that they could help with their votes, support, and of course their donations.

I did not know it until after Emmalee and her parents left, but Emmalee had gone right up to the donation table when I was done and donated four quarters to my campaign. When her Mother asked her, "Emmalee, why did you donate to her, do you want her to win?" Emmalee said "Yes ... I want ‘a her’ to win ... we need more ‘hers’ in government."

This 9-year-old girl's voice is one of my favorites — and her four quarters hang in a frame above my computer. Thank you, Emmalee, for your inspiration and faith in my campaign.

A public option for health insurance is a national priority.
