    is that some problems are too big for individuals to do all that needs doing. (Sandy is a good example.) On a personal level, for example--say a good friend of yours has her house foreclosed on, due to medical expenses. What can you possibly do to help her?? You couldn't pay her mortgage for her, right? You couldn't pay her medical bills for her. Presumably you don't have room to house her and her family with you. As a society we have to organize a system to prevent people from falling into the cracks like that. That requires some government policies to regulate the insurance co.'s, banks, etc.

    A conservative lady I know responds pretty well when you talk to her about more/better regulation.
