I got annoyed after the second caller called to ask me to do work for Obama and I told them I had a 2 year old daughter to take care of and they still kept bugging me, and then called me back later that week. With the second call I got pissed. The person was tone deaf, obviously. They haven't called me since, thank goodness.

So, I'd disagree that it generates energy and enthusiasm for Obama. For me, it was annoying and generated resentment.

Just sayin',  phone bank people need to have a good ear and adapt to the person on the other line, don't just mindlessly follow your little script and ignore what they are telling you. If I had been on the fence, I would have been annoyed enough to vote for Romney out of spite. :O

that there are a lot of different organizations working to support Obama and they are not allowed to coordinate efforts because of he law. In that situation it is natural to expect that there will be some level of confusion.

I would also ask you to consider that these people are volunteers and not used to any of this, especially calling people out of the blue to ask them to help, so perhaps they are more married to their scripts than the ideal.

But they are working for a better America and I think that what they are doing is vital to the campaign. I would urge you to consider that maybe a bit of inconvenience and annoyance is not too great a price to pay to assure that your daughter grows up in an America where her opportunities and rights remain intact. Think how they can be eroded if the Republicans are able to appoint another neo-con to the Supreme Court.

      •  Good point (0+ / 0-)

Yes. First time they called I thanked them for their work but said I wasn't going to be getting involved this cycle, and made it clear this was the case, even though it was clear he wasn't listening to me and was just walking through a script. Second time, I was nice at first, but when he pressed me I just said no thank you and hung up. Haven't heard back. Good riddance, sick of election crap. Almost over....still need to go vote. :)

and do other things at the same time. People been totin' kids out to fields for 1000's of years.

You can get involved, if you want.

      •  Kudos (0+ / 0-)

Kudos to you if you go out to fields [sic] with your kids, but if the person on the phone had said something so presumptuous, without knowing anything about me or my situation, I would have gotten their name and chewed out their supervisor.

Stuff like this makes me glad I am registered Independent. I live in NC, have not voted yet. Does this kind of "encouragement" make me more likely, or less likely. to vote for Obama? That should be the question in proselytizers' minds.
