  •  Agreed ... I, too, am a convert. (9+ / 0-)

I believed all of those things as a moderate Republican.

Gradually - it took 15-20 years - I found that I could no longer support Republican candidates. My memories are vague, but I must have skipped a few Presidential elections during the 80s due to sheer cognitive dissonance.

I started out small by voting for local Democrats and finally cast my first Democratic presidential vote for Clinton.

It's hard to believe, but once upon a time liberal (before it became a dirty word) Republicans were the ones running the party. I tease my Republican family that Obama is really the Eisenhower Republican in this race.

My sister recently told me that she's an independent and "doesn't really consider herself a Republican". This is the sister who still displays an autographed picture of herself standing next to President Reagan at a fundraiser!

It's not easy to give up one's party affiliation and I empathize with those caught in that snare.

      "Eisenhower Republican"

"Privatize to Profitize" explains every single Republican economic, social and governing philosophy. Take every taxpayer dollar from defense, education, health care, public lands, retirement - privatize it, and profit from it.
