They may have said they didn't write a concession speech, but the one he gave was actually pretty good, and I doubt it could have been prepared with only an hour's notice. This was just the final lie of the campaign. There must have been practical political operatives on staff who could assess the situation clinically, and they knew he would need it.

let Romney be Romney. Hell, he'd lost, it's not like it mattered who he pissed off now.

So he said what he thought. And put out the word to those in the hall that there were to be no boos, no putting down the President, and they were to act like adults, not spoiled brats.

If he'd just been himself during the campaign, things might have been different. But he spent so much effort trying to please everybody, he pleased nobody. And nobody believed anything he said.

Note to future presidential candidates - BE YOURSELF. Everything you've said and done is going to be out there anyway. Nothing you say to anybody is private. If you contradict your previous position, be able to explain why you changed your mind, and don't be changing it every 2 minutes (or less, in Romney's case).

And release your financials early and often, with lots of explanatory text.

but I'll bet someone on his staff had one in their back pocket
