  •  Someone (Barney Frank?) said about Democrats & (16+ / 0-)

the GOP: "We're not perfect -- but they're CRAZY!"   I expect a lot of Indians see us that way -- not  perfect, but not the crazies.  I suspect a lot of Indians don't strongly identify as Democrats (if at all), because the whole political power structure has often been so unresponsive to Indian needs and values.

But those who pick a political party sure do trend Democratic!

There's a move by Indian activists to increase voting, and there are Democrats who are really encouraging that, not least of them being Barack Black Eagle, President of the United States.

So the potential for strengthening our alliance with Indian tribes is great.  Now's the time.

I'm pleased to read that Heidi Heitkamp has pledged to meet with tribal leaders quarterly, and that she plans to try for a seat on the Indian Affairs committee.  She's positioning herself to really be an advocate for Indian positions and needs.

I really like her face, too.  After looking at Romney way too much for months, it's nice to see an open face and a genuine smile.  :)  She's got bad positions on a few issues, like supporting the pipeline, but the Indians may educate her out of that.  I'm really pleased that she won.
