    some native american issues, but there is enormous opportunity to expand on that. People need to see results if dems are to count on them going forward.

    Having said that, one serious problem with combatting poverty on these reservations is the lack of interest from the states in which they exist. Integrating these sometimes disparate local economies, and creating more economic activity so people can have jobs, isn't something easily done by the feds. I don't know about ND, but my last visit to SD gave me the impression the non-Indian population there isn't interested in major state initiatives to help improve the economics on the reservations. In fact I got the impression that many there see the reservations as foreign countries that have their own sources of funding and are "not their problem."

      them toward sovereignty a big step in self determination. I was wondering about wind power on some of the reservations. I have a number of Native activist friends but have not had much time the last few months to catch up with them. Poverty and alcohol chicken or the egg. There are answers to all these problems we can't stop looking and working for them
