enshrined in the Constitution that it be that way. It only devolves to that and then from that two a two-headed hydra that wins either way. Let the GOP R.I.P. and let variety and co-operative coalitions gather together at the grass-roots level. In 2008 I ran for my State House as a non-party ("Citizen Me") person, with only a few friends pushing me forward to do it- and I garnered just a sliver under 10% of the vote. I may just go back again and try harder with an independent organization.
But the thing about it is- I had been invited by the local Democrats to be on their ticket, and had I accepted I would have been a shoo-in and I'd be in the State House now. BUT- they asked me to support the rest of the party and whole-heartedly and I don't (Gimme Kucinich or give me political death, I say...). So I ran on my own since people seemed to want me. And in the end all people wanted to know was whether I would "caucus" with the Dems or the Republicans. Aarrgh!
