to this campaign I would say The battle of the bulge in 1944. It was tough, nasty, and there was a real chance of a major setback. Ultimately it was won on guts, smarts, and small groups of GI's who would not give up under any circumstances. This one sealed the deal on the western front.
This is the current political aftermath we are looking at. Lots of wreckage on the field. Lots of finger pointing. Areas of the country that are still GOP Strongholds. the problem the GOP face is demographic. This country has ALWAYS been a big melting pot. The problem now is that the newest generations do not see skin color as a dividing point. Nor is religion, or sexual orientation. These generations belong to a certain minister who had a dream and that dream is becoming the everyday reality of our country. It only took 60 years, and still is not completely the norm, but it is getting there. These are the people who came out and said to the GOP that integrity does matter and that character does matter.

is the House democratic caucus. It's female, it's brown, its gay, its not 100% Christian. It is America. The only thing they have left to fall back on is 2010 to try to preserve their remnant of power until 2020. We can't let up. After 2008, the pundits were saying the GOP was dead, that it would never win another national election for a generation. Then 2010 happened, with the Republicans harnessing white anger and a depressed democratic electorate in the worst possible year for us. We can't let that happen again.

There is a reward for hard work well done. More hard work.
If we as democrats really want to have the America that we dream about we are going to have to fight for it. I don't mean a test of arms, I mean a test of vision. We cannot focus on the short term win, we must think long term as in decades and centuries. What do we want to leave our children and their children and so on.
Yes we must also be concerned about the present but we must also have long term goals. If we must drag the republicans along with us kicking and screaming fine. No one ever said it would be easy, but it is doable, and far more important, it is necessary.

If you're as confused by this comment as the Germans, see the 4th paragraph here.  And donate to Wikipedia!
