  •  i think mitt & rove et al believed the sos's in r (12+ / 0-)

states would be able to steal the election.  they were confident their voter suppression &/or voting machine tampering, throwing out d registration forms, etc, would do the trick -- & rove's on-air implosion was a last-ditch attempt to stall the process until he could mount some kind of effort to delay the race being called in ohio, like he did with fla in 2000.  hey, it worked before, so why not do it again, right?  and, if he was successful in getting the other networks to change their call from obama  -- again, just like happened in 2000 -- then he could put all the wheels in motion to replicate the 2000 fiasco & throw everything to scotus.

that's why rove's comment about networks shouldn't be too hasty in calling a winner b/c it had happened before was so telling -- he tipped his hand on that one.  that was his plan if all else failed: go back to the strategy that gave the election to gwbush in 2000.

    •  I think they knew it was lost cause (4+ / 0-)

But kept up pretense of winning attitude to cover their asses.   They knew they were gonna lose weeks ago, but they needed to keep the donor dollars rolling in.  And they duped they old, frightened white folks.  It reminded me of the con artists that come to repair your grandparents roof, and keep finding problems where there aren't any.  It is shameful.
Megan Kelly's remark about when they rehearsed this was a big clue.

    •  Exactly right (4+ / 0-)

If it was only up to Ohio, they knew they had a stacked deck and could keep this in the courts until the Democrats gave up.  They stopped all the pretense about "let's just make sure we are being a responsible media organization" when the internal Romney numbers on Virginia started to come in, and they knew their narrow path was a brick wall anyway.

I believe when Rove was doing his little dance, that even he knew they had lost Ohio.  I just think they thought the loss was less than 200k, and that there would be over 200k provisional ballots.

If you're a shameless Republican, then that's enough for a lawsuit.

    •  I think so too, (3+ / 0-)

What I also think is that the ACTUAL results in Ohio are probably way higher, and that Husted saw early on that he wouldn't be able to shift that many votes Willards way without it looking very suspicious.

      •  i've thought that about ohio, (1+ / 0-)

        and about florida too.

all this election cycle i've been thinking we really don't have 2 parties.  we have one party, and a group of obstructionist thugs and criminals duping a bunch of entrenched and scared people.  it really has to stop.  these thugs are creating a hating class, are destroying government processes and exhausting the rest of us.

serious voting reform is called for.  standardised methods of voting across the board.  citizen monitors.

they could pull this off by fraudulent means, and sos's in r states were engaged to do so, then there is conspiracy.  someone should look for a paper trail on this one.  someone = journalist.

because i agree with what you're saying and it's way scary.

      •  the r's get away with it for the same reason (1+ / 0-)

romney got away with blatant serial lying all thru the campaign -- the media gives them a pass.

they expect the r's to lie b/c they always have, & their attitude is, oh well, nothing to see here, let's just move on.

doesn't bode well for democracy at all.
