I felt in November, 2004. I was truly shocked that George W. Bush  had earned a second term, because I personally lived in a liberal enclave, and I ran in very liberal social circles. Troubling national opinion polls about the upcoming election notwithstanding, I thought that the electorate looked exactly like my personal surroundings. I took it for granted that everyone hated Bush as much as I did.

Was I ever in for a rude shock. I was not right for weeks.

That's what these people are grappling with now. You can deride their "fantasy world" all you want. I sympathize with their honest, human disappointment.

I was following the stats constantly, reading everything I could, and I understood that it was not looking good for Dems.  No, I couldn't figure out why anyone could vote for W, but it was clear to me that only a small miracle could keep him out.

Still I was obviously hoping like crazy that that miracle would occur, and when it didn't I experienced something like PTSD for months, very depressed and worried.  Rightly.

One of the things that makes me angriest is the greed and hubris of those who intentionally mislead and misinform millions of essentially naive people so they fall into such self-delusional traps.

I don't think anyone willfully deceived me, regarding Kerry's chances. To this day, I think I believed what I wanted to believe.

Why do you think the Romney partisans were intentionally mislead? By whom?
