      to be done carefully and thoughtfully as part of a longer-term strategy, because there will be short-term negative consequences to the economy.  And there will be a lot of voters furious that they just elected a President who raised their taxes.  

      It's tricky.  I have no idea how to sell it or even if it can be sold without Dems looking as reckless as the Tea Party nuts who refused to raise the debt ceiling.  I'm hoping that the Obama administration is smart enough to figure this out, and that voters are patient enough to suffer through the immediate effects.
