  •  No, get rid of him and his ilk (11+ / 0-)

As a country, we don't need the toxic bilge he and his fellow right wing radio "personalities" spew. It's more than just bad for the GOP - it poisons the country as a whole. The people that listen to that shit internalize it, have it reinforced daily, and pass it on to others.

I'd rather have a functioning opposition party than one that serves a crazyass racist minority, fundamentalist loons, and greedy randroids. Knocking out talk radio douchebags might help ameliorate at least one of those problem groups.

    This fascist kills machines.

    •  Yes, you are right (5+ / 0-)

Buckeye's suggestion has a lovely cynicism to it that appeals to me, but frankly the country will be better off if the Republicans return to sanity, even if it makes it tougher for Democrats to win.

      •  I think it makes it easier for us to win (6+ / 0-)

as I say downthread, if the GOP tacks a bit Center in response to the extremism, they lose the far Right AND we can advocate from increasingly Left positions, rather than tacking Rightward as well. This better defines the party differences to uneducated voters and creates an electorate which will ultimately be more enthused and less confused. More like the kinds of politics we saw in previous generations of yon.

      •  I don't think they will though. (2+ / 0-)

Ever return to sanity as a cohesive political Party. Rush's Weltschauung seems too deeply imbedded in the psyche of the Republican base. It was there before Rush and will be there after Rush. It won't disappear any time soon.

It is shrinking (thank god) but as it shrinks it becomes more concentrated, fearful, and virulent... and less amenable to compromise. Rove and his power-broker pals have unwittingly unleashed a demon that has escaped their control and that is now wrecking the Republican Party.
Unfortunately it might destroy much else as well.

    •  There will always be (0+ / 0-)

a minority of racists, bigots, homophobes, and just plain sheer hateful ignorant fucks around. Better to keep them in the light where we can keep an eye on them and see what they're up to then to drive them underground where gawd only knows what kind of shit they're plotting. Also, keeping them visible helps to heap more scorn and discredit on them, and hold them up as an example of just how intelligent, civilized people do not behave.

Finally, Rush and his sheep are an anchor around the neck of the conservatives that needs to be locked down and chained ever tighter and tighter. Rush is helping them to hang themselves. It's up to us to give him all the rope he needs.
