    the "way forward," as they see it, has lain in pandering to crazy old white people. We've had a few years of this already. Heh, look how well it's worked :)

    If the Republican Party wants to survive as a major political brand, the other option, as you point out, may be to jettison the white crazies and embrace the minorities. THAT will be a masterful, unprecedented pivot.

      Democrats were the party of Jim Crow, after all.

      But it would involve a bloodletting the likes of which we haven't seen in a generation at least. This is a problem of the Republican Establishment's own cynical making, and one which they must choose solve, or risk becoming a regional rump party.

      The real enemy of the good is not the perfect, but the mediocre.
